Peter King Thinks Cowboys Drafting CeeDee Lamb Was a Mistake and He's Very Wrong

The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2020 NFL Draft with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup as the top two wide receivers on the roster. Jerry Jones wanted to boost the offense even more and used the No. 17 overall pick on Oklahoma receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Jones then used his next three picks on the defensive side of the ball, with two of those selections being defensive backs. Yet NFL writer Peter King still has a problem with Lamb being taken over a defender at No. 17.

Some of King's reasoning seems to be more idealistic than logical. He mentions how losing Byron Jones and Robert Quinn this offseason left some holes on the roster.

However, the team grabbed cornerback Trevon Diggs in the second round and defensive tackle Neville Gallimore in the third. Lamb was a top receiving talent sitting on the board and the strategy of taking the best player available was seemingly used, and rightfully so.

Dak Prescott now has three legitimate weapons at receiver and that is before mentioning Ezekiel Elliott out of the backfield. Adding Lamb helps replace the production lost by the departures of both Randall Cobb and Jason Witten as well.

Jones still added defensive help later on and filled the needs on his roster. While King viewed defense as the most glaring need at pick No. 17, the Cowboys still needed another weapon on offense and got one in Lamb.
