Phillies Closing in on Deal With Veteran Lefty Francisco Liriano
By Scott Rogust

The Philadelphia Phillies have been among the most active teams this winter with the additions of Zack Wheeler and Didi Gregorius. Now, they look to be making another splash.
According to Robert Murray of The Athletic, the Phillies have reached an agreement with left-handed veteran pitcher Francisco Liriano on a minor-league contract.

Liriano, as many know, used to be a quality starter in the league. However, after a dreadful 2018 campaign with the Detroit Tigers, the lefty moved into the bullpen once joining the Pittsburgh Pirates this past season.
In 69 games in 2019, Liriano compiled a 5-3 record, along with a 3.47 ERA, and 60 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched.

One of the many flaws for the Phillies last year was the inconsistency of the bullpen. That, among many things, resulted in Philadelphia missing the postseason despite the additions of Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto.
Now, Liriano joins Drew Storen and Bud Norris as low-risk, high-reward relievers for the Phillies, who look to take a leap under new manager Joe Girardi.
