Phillies Hire Bryan Price as Pitching Coach
By Chris Russo
The Phillies have a big part of their coaching core in place.
After hiring Joe Girardi as their new manager, the Phillies have reportedly named former Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price as their next pitching coach.
Price spent five years as the Reds' manager before the team fired him early in the 2018 season. Cincinnati did not reach the playoffs in his managerial tenure.
However, Price has found success as a coach with the Reds and other teams. He was the pitching coach for the 2001 Seattle Mariners, tied for the most regular season wins ever, as well as an Arizona Diamondbacks team that reached the NLCS. The Reds made the playoffs three of the four years in which he was their pitching coach.
Price had interviewed with several other teams for their respective positions, including the Boston Red Sox.
Girardi is also looking for a hitting coach, and former Colorado Rockies teammate Dante Bichette appears to be a leading candidate in rounding out some of the higher coaching positions.
With the Phillies now sharing the division with the defending World Series champions, Girardi is close to having his right-hand men in place.
