The Philadelphia Phillies have decided to hire from within the division to fill their open hitting coach position.

Joe Dillon, who was the Washington Nationals' assistant hitting coach last year, will serve as the Phillies new hitting coach under manager Joe Girardi.

Dillon is highly regarded and certainly bettered his resume by being part of the Nationals' World Series winning team in 2019. He's been the assistant hitting coach for Washington the last two seasons, working under Washington hitting coach Kevin Long, who spent seven seasons as Girardi's hitting coach with the New York Yankees.

Before his tenure in Washington, Dillon served as the Miami Marlins' minor league hitting coordinator from 2015-2017.

The 44-year-old does have experience playing in the major leagues, spending parts of four seasons with the Marlins, Brewers and Rays. Dillon replaces the great Charlie Manuel, who became the Phillies hitting coach after John Mallee was let go in August.
