Phillies Hire Yankees' Crosschecker Brian Barber as Amateur Scouting Director
After a very disappointing 2019 campaign by the Philadelphia Phillies, the team has started to make some offseason moves to improve the organization as a whole.
The most noticeable decision from the front office so far was their firing of manager Gabe Kapler. Well, that wasn't the only move they made to the coaching staff. The Phils have hired former Yankees national crosschecker Brian Barber to become the team's amateur scouting director.
Barber is famously credited for the scouting and drafting of Yankees superstar Aaron Judge, so naturally Phillies fans will have high expectations for him.
It'll be interesting to see if he's able to help develop some of the young talented players within Philadelphia's farm, as well as identify potential MLB Draft steals.
With young players like Spencer Howard and Adonis Medina expected to make their pro debut with Philadelphia next season, it's crucial that a qualified director like Barber is in the mix so these players are ready to help the team win as soon as possible.
After watching high-upside players like Maikel Franco, Roman Quinn, and Nick Williams fail to develop into top tier talent, it's time the Phils find a few gems within their own farm.
