Phillies Select UNLV Shortstop Bryson Stott With 14th Overall Pick
By Brendan Azoff
The Philadelphia Phillies selected big UNLV shortstop Bryson Stott with the 14th overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft, adding one of the most prolific bats in college baseball this season to their farm system.
The 6-3, 200 pound infielder batted .356 this season for the Rebels, with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs. Stott added 16 stolen bases and 20 doubles, showcasing his all-around game throughout the 2019 season.
The Vegas connection with Bryce Harper will be imminent, and the Phillies seem to be high on what Stott is going to bring to their middle infield in the future.
Stats had more walks than strikeouts in his junior year, a statistic that is amazing considering the increased strikeout rate in all of baseball. If Stott can continue his good eye at the if league level, the Phillies may have just found a diamond in the rough.
