Phillies Send Adam Haseley to IL and Recall Nick Williams From Triple-A
By Sean Facey
After just two games with the Phillies, outfielder Adam Haseley's rookie season has been put on hold.
The Phillies have placed Haseley on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain and have recalled outfielder Nick Williams from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Haseley, a Top 100 prospect, made all of eight plate appearances with the Phillies, going 1-for-7 with a double, a walk and an RBI.
Williams was optioned to Triple-A less than a week ago. He's struggled on offense at the major league level in 2019, slashing just .159/.205/.232 in 73 plate appearances. He managed a meager two walks in that span.
In Williams' brief stint in the minors, he seemed to find his stroke, posting a .974 OPS with 6 hits in 16 at-bats. He'll be placed in a backup role in his return, though.
Outfield depth has become a glaring issue for Philadelphia in recent weeks, especially due to Odubel Herrera's domestic violence arrest and Andrew McCutchen's torn ACL that sidelined him for the year.
Though Williams isn't expected to get a starter's level of playing time, the Phils' depth is seriously being put to the test.
