A big roster move is afoot in Philly.

Nick Williams, the former highly-touted prospect for the Phillies who played well in his first two seasons, has surprisingly been sent down to Triple-A on Sunday. The outfielder is hitting just .180 this season in 65 plate appearances, which likely led to his demotion.

Williams made his debut in 2017 against the Mets and went on to hit .288 over the rest of the season. His numbers dropped slightly last year when he hit .256, but he still had 17 home runs and 50 RBI in 140 games.

The complete turn of events this year was unexpected, but due to the signing of Bryce Harper, Williams' role was limited and the inconsistent playing time has seemingly negatively affected the young outfielder.

The regular playing time in Triple-A may help solve the kinks in Williams' game, but due to the loaded roster in Philly right now, it might be a while before Williams reemerges in the majors again.
