Phillies and Tigers Release Lineups for Official Spring Training Opener
By Adam Weinrib
It's officially time for Spring Training baseball! Saturday marks the official Grapefruit League opening, following some strange exhibition showdowns with collegiate teams on Friday (sorry, Southeastern, but you had to get walked off by the team from Big D).
The Phillies and Tigers will show off their big-time lineups on Saturday, in the first genuine face-off of the preseason.
The Phils will send a cadre of regulars to the dish in support of Nick Pivetta.
Scott Kingery, Adam Haseley, and Rhys Hoskins start things off with a professional feel, but don't sleep on Ronald Torreyes at short, who'll become a fan favorite in Philly soon enough -- he does so at every stop.
Jordan Zimmermann's on the mound for Detroit, with recently-signed Cameron Maybin leading things off.
Regulars abound in this lineup, including Jonathan Schoop and CJ Cron, recent plunders from the Minnesota Twins, as well as Miguel Cabrera's first DH appearance.
We can't wait 'til these games count, but for now, this is a solid consolation prize. Let's go!
