Phillies to Reportedly Sign Logan Forsythe to Minor-League Deal
By Jackson Thompson
The Philadelphia Phillies are bringing some versatility to their lineup with the signing of utility man Logan Forsythe. According to Chris Cotillo, the Phillies signed Forsythe to a minor-league deal on Sunday.
Forsythe most recently played on the Texas Rangers, with prior stints on the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres. He boasts a .246 career batting average with 70 home runs and 305 RBI.
Forsythe is a nine-year veteran, with experience at every position except center field, pitcher and catcher. He's played primarily as a second baseman in his career, but can fill any infield position. Last season with Texas, he spent the majority of his time at first base.
With this signing, Philadelphia adds some depth to an already heavily experienced lineup. While his numbers last year were below his career average, they were respectable enough to warrant a shot at competing for a spot in the majors this year on a veteran team.
