Phillies Veteran OF Corey Dickerson Out for Season After Suffering Fractured Foot
By Ryan Giglio
The injury bug has bitten the Philadelphia Phillies at a most inopportune time.
The team announced on Tuesday that veteran outfielder Corey Dickerson will miss the rest of the season with a fractured left foot.
Dickerson was originally acquired by Philadelphia in July as outfield depth insurance due to the absences of Andrew McCutchen, Jay Bruce and Odubel Herrera.
The team is still battling for a Wild Card spot so this is a big loss for the Phils. The 30-year-old slugger has hit .293/.307/.579 with eight homers, 10 doubles and two triples in 137 plate appearances for the Phillies.
This latest injury adds further frustration to a disappointing season for a Phillies team that expected to be serious contenders. Instead, Philadelphia sits five games behind the Cubs for the second Wild Card spot, though Chicago has been marred by injury themselves.
Reliever Edubray Ramos has been activated from the IL and will take Dickerson's roster spot. The righty has a 5.14 ERA in 14 innings this year but has decent enough track record to sure up the team's 'pen down the stretch.
