Phillip Dorsett Takes Indirect Shot at Patriots While Praising Russell Wilson and Seahawks
By Jerry Trotta
The Seattle Seahawks equipped Russell Wilson with another dynamic weapon this offseason by inking wide receiver Philip Dorsett, formerly of the New England Patriots, to a one-year deal in free agency.
A player with Dorsett's speed likely had a slew of suitors on the open market, and it appears that the prospect of catching passes from Wilson was too enticing to pass up. In a recent Zoom interview with reporters, the 27-year-old wideout revealed that played a role in his decision to sign with Seattle.
In fact, Dorsett went as far as to say that he made a "mistake" by passing up the opportunity to join the Seahawks last year.
"I could have come (to Seattle) last year, but I chose to stay in New England," said the former Miami Hurricanes star. "I didn’t want to make that mistake again."
It goes without saying that Dorsett flourishes on the deep ball and Wilson just so happens to throw one of the prettiest in the NFL. After averaging 14.8 yards per reception in two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, the former No. 29 overall pick logged just 13.2 yards per catch across three years in Foxborough.
Dorsett was clearly hindered by the struggles of New England's offense last season, and Tom Brady's evident decline in arm strength didn't exactly help matters. Fortunately for the former Patriot, he has a chance to enjoy a breakout season in Seattle as Wilson's No. 3 WR behind Tyler Locket and DK Metcalf, who could open up oodles of real estate for him.
It sure sounds like Dorsett couldn't have gotten out of New England sooner.
