Phillip Lindsay Admits He Wasn't Happy Broncos Signed Melvin Gordon
By Jerry Trotta
The Denver Broncos shocked a number of fans when they signed running back Melvin Gordon earlier this offseason. Already having the likes of Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman forming a solid committee, it didn't seem necessary to sign another runner (much less a former division rival).
The news couldn't have sat well with Lindsay and Freeman, and the former recently admitted during an Instagram Live video with Broncos legend Terrell Davis that it was initially difficult to come to terms with.
How could it not?
Lindsay was a former undrafted rookie out of Colorado that had to scratch and claw just to be signed by an NFL team. The fact that he managed to carve out a role as significant as his with Denver is inspiring. It clearly means everything to him.
The Broncos signing Gordon to a two-year, $16 million deal to be the starter while he's fresh off a Pro Bowl season pocketing less than $1 million annually on his rookie contract should absolutely fluster Lindsay.
Eventually, the 25-year-old came around to the notion that he and Gordon could form a dynamic tandem, but don't expect Lindsay to just hand over the starting gig to the former Wisconsin star.
