VIDEO: Joe Musgrove Notches First Spring Training Strikeout on Wicked Breaking Ball
By Mark Powell
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Joe Musgrove will be called upon early and often to lead a somewhat lacking starting rotation, featuring a disappointing Chris Archer and the still-recovering Jameson Taillon. On Monday, he got off to a great start, striking out a Phillies' batter with a nasty breaking pitch.
Pitchers and catchers typically have an advantage entering Spring Training, as Musgrove reported to Bradenton before his offensive counterparts. The tall, lanky rightY's 4.44 ERA must improve in 2020, and perhaps adding some spin to this breaking pitch is a start.
