Pirates Players Purchasing 400 Pizzas for Local Hospital is the Kind of Effort We Need From the Sports World
By Evan Wolff

A world without sports is difficult to comprehend. Without distractions from the world around us, it can be difficult to find the good stories in the middle of a coronavirus pandemic. However, many athletes, including athletes from the MLB, have used their public positions to provide help in ways others cannot.
One of those stories focuses on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Small local businesses have felt a huge impact of the pandemic, with no customers available to get them through this difficult time. Pirates players solved this problem, at least temporarily, by purchasing 400 pizzas from a local pizzeria.
Pirates players purchased 400+ pizzas (plus pasta) from Slice on Broadway and Pizzeria Davide today and had it delivered to Allegheny General Hospital for lunch.

The pizzas that were purchased were immediately donated to hospital workers to show support for those who are on the front lines against this disease. It's an incredible show of solidarity by athletes who are expressing their connection to the local community in ways that expand past baseball.
Pirates player rep Jameson Taillon: "We thought this was a way to help. Two birds with one stone. We can help local restaurants. We can help the hospitals and the workers and show our appreciation. We started throwing the idea around, and everyone got excited and made it happen."

It has been awesome to see how athletes from all over professional sports have chipped in to help those that can't support themselves during these difficult times. Even without sports going on, our favorite athletes have still given us reason to cheer for them in lieu of games.
