Pirates Reportedly Place Multiple Veterans on Trade Block After Another Deflating Loss
By Charles Nason
After Wednesday's crushing loss at the hands of Paul Goldschmidt and the Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates are seemingly starting to unfold. They're coming off back-to-back series losses, both to inter-division foes.
With the Pirates barely hanging on in the NL Central standings, they're starting to make moves to get back to their winnings ways. Those efforts include making some of their older players available.
So far nothing is set in stone, but it looks like the Pirates are seriously ready to unload some veterans. After Wednesday's loss, 28-year-old Jordan Lyles, 34-year-old Melky Cabrera and 30-year-old Corey Dickerson all look to be on the trading block.
If Pittsburgh wants to trade any of these vets, they'll need a significant return to make any deal worth it.
In the event that Lyles, Cabrera and Dickerson all are moved before the deadline, the Pirates will need to fill two spots in the outfield and one on the mound. The emergence of stars like Bryan Reynolds and Starling Marte have allowed the Pirates some breathing room in the outfield. The vacant pitching spot may be harder to replace.
