Pirates Reportedly Trade Corey Dickerson to Phillies
By Mark Powell
The Phillies are severely lacking in outfield depth ever since the injury to offseason free agent acquisition Andrew McCutchen.
From one Pirates to another, the Phillies have solved their problem for now. Corey Dickerson is heading east across the Keystone State. Don't take the PA Turnpike, though. Those tolls are outrageous.
Dickerson is a former All-Star with the Rays, and he puts up respectable numbers. For a likely platoon situation, this is a solid get for the Phillies. The 30-year-old leaves much to be desired defensively, but his bat and solid contact rate often makes up for this.
Dickerson is hitting .317 on the season, and is a career .285 hitter. A free agent this offseason, the Pirates are trading Dickerson while they have the chance, especially as they struggle to stay afloat in the NL Central. Pittsburgh is just 3-15 since the All-Star Break, and need to replenish their farm system besides.
Philadelphia also remains in the thick of the NL Wild Card race, as they're currently tied with the Cubs for the second spot. Today's move only helps them keep pace and stave off challengers.
