Pistons' Asking Price in Trade Talks for Derrick Rose Proves He's Not Going Anywhere
By Karl Rasmussen
The Detroit Pistons are in the difficult spot of being stuck in between a rebuild and contenders. With an aging core, the Pistons have been rumored to be looking to blowup the roster, especially following Blake Griffin's season-ending surgery.
Well, Derrick Rose has been rumored to be available for trade, but based on the reported asking price from Detroit, there's absolutely no chance a deal gets done.
The Pistons are reportedly seeking a lottery pick in exchange for D-Rose, something which seems very much like a long shot.
Virtually any team set to pick in the lottery in 2020 is likely not in need of a 31-year-old point guard with immense injury history. As beloved as Rose is around NBA circles, he's a player who represents tremendous risk, and the Pistons are in well over their heads if they think a team is willing to sacrifice an early first-rounder for him.
Rose has featured in 42 of Detroit's 50 games this year, averaging 18.9 points, 6.0 assists and 2.6 rebounds. His resurgence has been a fantastic storyline, but you'd be hard pressed to find a franchise willing to compromise an early pick for his services.
Rose is currently under contract through the 2020-21 season having signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Pistons this offseason.
Now at 17-33, it looks like the Pistons are officially ready to throw in the towel on the 2019-20 campaign, and that could see them try to move Rose. However, if that's something they truly want to do, they'll have to try a bit harder and lower their egregious asking price.
