VIDEO: Former Tennessee Basketball Star Jordan Bone Surprises His Mom With College Degree
By Andrew Gullotta
If you need something to to cheer up during quarantine, this video of Detroit Pistons guard Jordan Bone delivering the best of surprises to his mother will do the trick. Bone, who turned pro after his junior season at the University of Tennessee, recently finished his degree, and chose Mother's Day for the big reveal.
In a live video on ESPN, the former Volunteers standout surprised his mom and even got a cap and tassel That would have been heart warming enough, but the university went a step further: They surprised Bone with a special message from Vols head coach Rick Barnes and UT chancellor Donde Plowman. They touched upon his leadership as well as dedication on and off the court, which is just about the best endorsement a young basketball player can get.
This message had the former All-SEC guard and his family feeling plenty emotional. Reflecting on the moment, Bone was simply beaming, and said that he wants to be a hard-working role model. In these days of COVID-19, that's particularly special stuff.
Hopefully, Bone and the rest of the Pistons will be able to return to basketball soon enough, but, for now, we should applaud him and all this year's new graduates who had to go without a proper ceremony for all their hard work.
