Steelers Need to Add More Talent in Free Agency Because They're Screwed in the Draft
By Jerry Trotta

Heading into the offseason, there were several players from the Pittsburgh Steelers' 2019 roster who were expected to move on in free agency.
As much as the team would have loved to retain players like defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and linebacker Mark Barron, it simply didn't have the cap cap room to do so. Well, Steelers fans hoping that general manager Kevin Colbert could make up for his uninspiring spendings thus far in the 2020 NFL Draft should think otherwise.
Not only does Pittsburgh not have a first-round selection, but it only has one pick in the top 100.
Exactly one month until the 2020 NFL Draft. A few reminders:

▪️Most picks: MIA (14)
▪️Fewest picks: KC/NO (5)
▪️Teams with multiple 1st: MIA (3), JAC, LVR, MIN, SF
▪️Teams with no 1st: BUF, CHI, HOU, IND, LAR, PIT
▪️Most top 100 picks: MIA (6)
▪️Fewest top 100 picks: PIT (1)
The Steelers had better hope they get more out of free agency, because the chances they land a surefire difference-maker with the No.49 overall pick are slim.
The signing of tight end Eric Ebron indicates that Colbert is aware of that notion, but we still need to see more before we can say that Pittsburgh has salvaged its forgettable start to the offseason. Not only are the Steelers forced to overcome their own shortcomings, but the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns have both bolstered their rosters.
Former Colts TE Eric Ebron is going to the Steelers on a two-year, $12 million deal, per source.

Pittsburgh has approximately $10.2 million cap space to work with, so it's not like the organization is paralyzed by its checkbook. The draft won't save the Steelers, so there's really no excuse for the franchise not to make a few more signings here and now.
