3 Players the Bills Are Guaranteed to Lose in Free Agency

It's a BIG offseason for the Buffalo Bills. The team has almost $83 million in cap space to help supplement an already talented roster in place, but that doesn't mean the same very iteration that made the playoffs in 2019 will be back in 2020. The front office won't be able to keep everybody in town, especially since they'll likely be exploring additional options on the open market.

With that in mind, don't expect these impending free agents to be back with the Bills next season.

3. RB Frank Gore

There's just no need for the Bills to spend money on Frank Gore. While the indestructible veteran showed once again last season he's still got something left in the tank, Buffalo has Devin Singletary, who carried the load in 2019, and there will be plenty of other able-bodied backs in free agency and the draft to help provide the Bills with options with better upside than Gore.

2. OL Quinton Spain

It's not that the Bills won't want Spain back, it's just there will be high demand for offensive lineman in free agency and Buffalo may not be comfortable matching what other teams are willing to spend in that department. Spain signed a one-year prove-it deal and delivered, so teams will be lining up, and he'll be looking to cash in at the age of 28. No offense to Spain, but with all the cap space the Bills possess, they might be better off making a bigger splash for someone more reliable in free agency ... or they can always address the need again in the draft, which they're pretty good at.

1. DT Jordan Phillips

Phillips had himself a breakout season with the Bills in 2019, recording 9.5 sacks and 13 tackles for a loss. Convenient for him in a contract year, but not the Bills, who will be focusing their energy on bringing back Shaq Lawson. While Buffalo would love to have these two back in 2020, they'd be hard-pressed to invest that much money on the defensive line. Phillips really has had only one good NFL season to his name, so the front office may not be able to justify paying him what the market may command.
