3 Tradable Pistons Assets if They Decide to Tank After Blake Griffin Injury
By Mark Powell
The Detroit Pistons were already a disaster. Pair that with the recent news that Blake Griffin is undergoing likely season-ending knee surgery, and it's understandable why a franchise destined for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference year-over-year is finally considering tanking. Should Detroit wish to deal some of their assets for NBA Draft picks, these three should top the list.
3. Bruce Brown
If you haven't heard of Bruce Brown, we don't blame you. However, the Pistons' version of Marcus Smart-lite is an elite defender off any bench, and that's a useful trait come playoff time. He's being wasted in Detroit, and is still under-the-radar enough as a second-year man to come cheap.
2. Derrick Rose
For the love of God, someone save Derrick Rose from the perils of the Motor City! The man has rediscovered himself as a scorer off the bench, and on a contending team, he can really hone that talent as a sixth man and contributor to a backup unit when the offense is stagnant. The NBA needs D-Rose in the postseason.
1. Andre Drummond
Andre Drummond is essentially in the final year of his contract, as the two-time All-Star big man can opt out of his $28.75 million player option for 2020-21 at the end of the season. With the likes of the Hawks, Mavs, Celtics and Raptors already interested, Dre seems like a sure bet to be dealt by the February deadline. He's an elite rebounder, has improved defensively and is a solid second or third option on a relevant team.
