4 Players Who Will Be Bought Out After Surviving the Trade Deadline
Now with the trade deadline having come and gone, NBA teams will go bargain shopping in the NBA buyout market for low-cost, high-impact players. Whether teams are looking to cut overpaid guys, shed some salary, or looking to free up a roster spot, the buyout bin should be filled with rotation-worthy players.
Here are the four players who will be bought out following the trade deadline.
4. Matthew Dellavedova, Cavaliers
Dellavedova has lost playing time to the team's young guards. With Collin Sexton, Kevin Porter and Darius Garland all commanding minutes in the backcourt and the team trading for 24-year-old Dante Exum, there just isn't enough time for Dellavedova to shine. Therefore, it's time for the Cavaliers to save a few million dollars and cut Delly loose so the two sides can move on.
3. Marvin Williams, Hornets
Williams has been a consistent presence for the past 15 years, but this season he's averaging career lows in almost every statistical category. It's not a coincidence either, because he's playing the fewest minutes per game of his career. PJ Washington has emerged as an everyday starter, and it should be time for the Hornets to get rid of their longtime big man.
2. Tristian Thompson, Cavaliers
Tristian Thompson is a great big man who is putting up career highs in points, rebounds and assists. However, with the Cavaliers' trade for Andre Drummond, Thompson's value to the team has certainly diminished considering he's not a fit to play alongside Drummond like Kevin Love is. The Cavs should orchestrate a buyout, save some money, and allow Thompson to flourish elsewhere.
1. Courtney Lee, Mavericks
Lee is a solid defender and a good jump shooter. However, playing behind Luka Doncic and a plethora of other younger guards, he has seen his role shrink to almost nothing. Since the Mavs are paying Lee about $13 million, it's time to the two sides part ways considering the veteran has only seen action in 11 games this season. He'd be an asset on the bench for a contender without a doubt.
