PNC Park Makes Hilarious Mistake on Pete Alonso Scoreboard Graphic
If his impressive rookie season didn't put Pete Alonso on the MLB map, his performance at the 2019 Home Run Derby certainly did.
Apparently, Pittsburgh didn't watch the Derby this year, because their lineup graphic clearly isn't Alonso.
I'm no Mets fan, but even I know that's not Alonso's face on the video board. Alonso's season warrants some more respect than the Pirates are giving him in this picture.
The rookie is hitting .254 on the year with a .360 OBP and 77 RBIs. His 34 home runs is a Mets rookie franchise record, with a ton of baseball left to play. He's on pace for more than 40 home runs this year for a Mets team that has otherwise disappointed.
The video board could also sum up the Mets' season this year: doing their best, but just not quite right.
New York sits at 53-55 on the year, but the team has shown life as of recent. They won seven straight games to push themselves closer to Wild Card contention in the National League. They sit four games back of the second wildcard spot.
Alonso will be crucial to any run the Mets go on, and it's now or never for the team. Maybe this mistake is the last low point for New York this season.
