This 49ers-Dolphins Draft Day Trade Could Land San Fran Antoine Winfield Jr. and Fix Both Teams' Secondaries

The Miami Dolphins have three first-round picks in this year's NFL Draft, giving them the luxury of being able afford to trade up or down at a moment's notice without sacrificing much. On the other hand, the San Francisco 49ers have two first-round picks (Nos. 13 and 31), but don't have another selection until the fifth round.

Coincidentally, the 49ers are reportedly looking to trade safety Jaquiski Tartt, who has proven to be a top player at his position over the last couple of years. Someone of his caliber can immediately improve a Dolphins safety corps, which consists of... Adrian Colbert and Eric Rowe??

Yes, we know the Dolphins could be looking at taking Minnesota's Antoine Winfield Jr., but why not look to get a seasoned veteran at that spot, offer him a contract extension, and draft a younger option later on?

With that in mind, the Dolphins should look into shipping the No. 26 pick in exchange for the No. 31 pick and Tartt. This could still allow Miami to get their hands on LSU safety Grant Delpit while also adding a competent veteran into the mix. Right off the bat, that's one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

Conversely, this could also work out if the Dolphins want to trade up and get their hands on the 49ers' No. 13 pick. That's a more complicated situation, while the first scenario allows the 49ers to rid themselves of Tartt's salary for 2020 and move up a few spots while Miami gets a veteran and still keeps another first-rounder.

Winfield may not last until No. 31, and the Dolphins could afford to use another pick on a more valuable position, such as offensive line, quarterback, wide receiver or linebacker. This potential deal seems like a simple agreement to help each side out without anyone emerging a clear winner.
