This Vikings-Raiders Draft Day Trade Could Land Minnesota CeeDee Lamb
By Michael Luciano
The trade that sent Stefon Diggs to Buffalo leaves the Minnesota Vikings almost bereft of receivers outside of Adam Thielen, as guys like Olabisi Johnson just aren't No. 2 wideout material.
One player who could ease their woes in a hurry? Oklahoma star CeeDee Lamb, currently neck-and-neck with Alabama's Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs for the title of best receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft class. With that in mind, the Vikings should absolutely try to trade up and land this game-changing weapon.
The Las Vegas Raiders, who pick at No. 12 and No. 19 overall this year, could be temped to use one of those picks on a wideout like Lamb. Minnesota needs to put a stop to that, and there's a path to make it happen.
Minnesota has two first-round picks of their own this year thanks to the Diggs trade, as well as a valuable second rounder. Packaging one of those first-round picks plus a second-rounder to Las Vegas for pick No. 12 would give the Raiders six selections in the first three rounds of the draft. It would also allow Minnesota to replace Diggs with a physical, fast deep threat in Lamb who appears destined for Pro Bowl, while Las Vegas gets to stockpile draft capital in order to make the best possible debut in their new home.
Lamb and Thielen would have the potential to be an ever better wide receiver combo than Diggs and Thielen were in the Twin Cities. The only problem? All this hinges on a generally passive GM in Rick Spielman. As one who tends to trade down, he'd need to break character and come around to trading up.
