PFT's Mike Florio Proposes Comical 'Holdout Trade' of Melvin Gordon for Trent Williams

As we expected, the respective contract holdouts of Chargers running back Melvin Gordon and Redskins left tackle Trent Williams have extended into the NFL's regular season with virtually no end in sight.

Well, there is a very palpable common denominator that both organizations are failing to comprehend. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio sarcastically (but also kinda sorta seriously) pitched a straight-up swap trade that would swiftly end the holdout sagas for both LA and Washington.

Who says no?

For starters, Redskins first-string tailback Derrius Guice is bound to end up on injured reserve with a meniscus injury. That leaves a 34-year-old Adrian Peterson and oft-injured Chris Thompson as the only players currently left standing in Washington's backfield.

As far as the Chargers are concerned, well, what team couldn't use a world-beating offensive tackle? Notably, two-time Pro Bowler Russell Okung, who suffered a pulmonary embolism in the early stages of camp, will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season. LA placed him on the non-football illness list prior to the start of the campaign.

The idea is literally hiding in plain sight, and it would seriously behoove both franchise's to get on the phone as soon as possible, right? A long-awaited out has finally presented itself. Pull the trigger, for Pete's sake!
