Projecting the Eagles' Stacked Starting Offense After the NFL Draft
The Philadelphia Eagles needed to add weapons on offense, and did so by snagging three wide receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft. The team also made the surprising selection of quarterback Jalen Hurts, who may see action in a some special packages in 2020.
Let's now take a look at this Eagles offense that should be improved after running out a disappointing group of receivers by the end of the 2019 season. Drafting Jalen Reagor and trading for Marquise Goodwin adds to a deep bunch for Carson Wentz to throw to as the team seeks a return to the Super Bowl.
Quarterback: Carson Wentz
Wentz may have been a bit surprised when the team drafted Hurts, but to his credit, he did sign a four-year, $128 million contract and threw for over 4,000 yards in 2019. Staying healthy is the key for him -- surpassing his career-high of 33 touchdowns will be within reach with the new talent surrounding him.
Running Back: Miles Sanders
Sanders was the team's leading rusher and finished No. 3 in receiving yards in 2019. Jordan Howard is now in Miami, and that could mean Sanders reaches the 1,000-yard mark in 2020 as the top back.
Wide Receiver: Alshon Jeffery
Jeffery's name was floated in trade rumors all offseason, but he is still on the team and has a dead cap number of $26 million. He is looking to rebound after a 490-yard season, and can certainly do so if he can stay healthy.
Wide Receiver: Jalen Reagor
The rookie was taken No. 21 overall and faces high expectations after the Eagles chose him over a top option like LSU's Justin Jefferson. The TCU product should have his eyes on taking over as the No. 1 receiver in Philly before long.
Tight End: Zach Ertz
Ertz was the team's leading receiver in 2019 with 916 yards and six touchdowns. He is Wentz's most reliable target, and will be fully expected to make his fourth straight Pro Bowl.
Tight End: Dallas Goedert
Goedert was the Eagles' second-leading receiver in 2019 right behind Ertz. He is learning from the best, and saw increases in receptions, yards, and touchdowns compared to his rookie season in 2018.
Left Tackle: Andre Dillard
The 2019 first-round pick will take over the left tackle role after learning behind Jason Peters. Those are some massive shoes to fill, but Dillard has the chance to prove he was worth the pick, and can earn himself some record money in the coming years with great play protecting Wentz's blind side.
Left Guard: Isaac Seumalo
Seumalo started all 16 games at left guard in 2019 and received a three-year extension last offseason. The former third-round pick has been handed the reins; all he has to do is justify the decision.
Center: Jason Kelce
The Philly legend is returning for another season, and that is great news for Wentz and the offense. Jason Kelce is fresh off his third Pro Bowl appearance and is a leader for the entire team. His presence is not to be underestimated.
Right Guard: Brandon Brooks
Brooks has started all 16 games at right guard each of the past three seasons. He has made the Pro Bowl in each of those years, and inked a four-year extension last November.
Right Tackle: Lane Johnson
Johnson is yet another piece of the offensive line that makes this Eagles team so scary. He has also made three straight Pro Bowls and helps form a legitimate wall up front for Wentz.
