Projecting the Dodgers Lineup After Mookie Betts Trade
By Michael Luciano
The Boston Red Sox were so obsessed with cutting payroll that it led them to trade mercurial superstar Mookie Betts, along with left-handed starter David Price, to the Los Angeles Dodgers. With Alex Verdugo, LA would have had a strong lineup, however, with Betts in the fray, this might be the best team in baseball.
Following the blockbuster deal, here's how the Dodgers project to lineup next year.
Los Angeles Dodgers Lineup With Mookie Betts
1. Mookie Betts, RF
2. Corey Seager, SS
3. Justin Turner, 3B
4. Cody Bellinger, CF
5. Max Muncy, 1B
6. AJ Pollock, LF
7. Gavin Lux, 2B
8. Will Smith, C
For an NL lineup, that's about as good as it gets. The Dodgers can put the 2018 AL MVP in Betts and 2019 NL MVP in Cody Bellinger in the lineup together day in and day out. The always reliable Corey Seager and Justin Turner could hit back to back, while Max Muncy provides thunder in the middle of the lineup.
Pollock had a resurgent season in his first campaign in Dodger blue, while Lux is a top five prospect in all of baseball who looks ready to break out this season. Meanwhile, young backstop Will Smith smashed 15 home runs last season, and looks like LA's catcher of the future.
The Dodgers were the favorites in the NL before this trade, and then they added one of the best players in baseball at a bargain of a price. Betts takes an already loaded lineup and brings it to a whole other level.
