Projecting the Los Angeles Lakers' Starting Lineup After LeBron James' Move to Point Guard
By Parker White
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a flurry of moves ever since they missed out on signing Kawhi Leonard. As you can imagine, their starting lineup is going to look totally different then it did last season.
That includes LeBron James moving from his usual forward spot to the point guard position, where he'll run the offense for LA. So, with the decision to move LBJ to the point guard spot, here's a projection as to what the Lakers' starting lineup will look like.
1. Point Guard: LeBron James
Now that we know the Lakers don't have Kawhi Leonard on board, LeBron James will have to be at his absolute best if the Lakers want to succeed and make a run. In their eyes, LeBron is at his best with the ball in his hands, so he'll be at point guard calling the shots.
2. Shooting Guard: Danny Green
When LeBron drives hard to the rim, there will be plenty of instances when he'll need to kick out to shooters. That's where newly-signed shooting guard Danny Green comes in He shot 45.5% from behind the arc with Toronto last year and really made an impact during their title run.
3. Small Forward: Kyle Kuzma
You have to think LeBron moving to point guard spot will make room for Kyle Kuzma in the starting lineup. Kuzma had an incredible season last year, averaging 18.7 points and 5.5 rebounds on 45.6% shooting from the field, so you can understand why they want him starting instead of coming off the bench.
4. Power Forward: Anthony Davis
There's no doubt that Anthony Davis is the No. 2 option behind LeBron, but you can bet that he'll be looking to get Davis involved quite a bit. I mean, we are talking about a top-five player in the world that will thrive alongside LeBron.
5. Center: DeMarcus Cousins
The Lakers will have one of the biggest starting lineups in basketball, and it continues with DeMarcus Cousins starting at the center spot over JaVale McGee. Cousins was coming off an Achilles injury this year with the Warriors, so you have to expect he'll look more like the Boogie of old with a full offseason to prepare his body and not recover from injury. He may not be Kawhi Leonard, but Cousins has shown he can play at an All-Star level when healthy.
