This 49ers-Texans Trade Involving Deshaun Watson and Jimmy Garoppolo Will Probably Make You Freak Out
By 12up staff
We're still not sure what BOBby Boy is doing down in Houston, so what are the actual chances he considers trading star quarterback Deshaun Watson? After all, Bill O'Brien has replaced DeAndre Hopkins with an oft-injured Brandin Cooks and a half-the-time-non-existent Randall Cobb.
While we've explored other Watson trade opportunities, how were the San Francisco 49ers not a consideration earlier? What if John Lynch called the Texans and suggested sending Jimmy Garoppolo and the No. 13 pick to the Texans for Watson? This, of course, is assuming Watson isn't happy in Houston given what's transpired over the last few weeks.
Before you say the No. 13 pick is too steep here, just shut up. It's not, especially when you consider the 49ers didn't even have this selection a few weeks ago.
Honestly, would the 49ers need to worry about improving their wide receiving corps with the No. 13 pick if they got their hands on Watson? Probably not. They could just use the No. 31 pick and maybe a late-rounder to trade up in the first round to grab someone in this deep class. Not for nothing, they wouldn't necessarily need a Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb anymore.
The 49ers would get two years of Watson while their Super Bowl window is WIDE OPEN. We saw the offense's limitations with Jimmy G under center last year. Yes, he's good, but he doesn't exactly stretch the field, and he's only had one full year as a starter. Watson, a national champion at Clemson, is already a two-time Pro Bowler and had a 4,000-yard passing season to his name within just three years.
As for the Texans? They actually come out very favorable here. They get a franchise QB at a great price (given the ever-increasing market value) for the next three years and FINALLY secure a first-round pick (but we're sure BOB won't know what to do with it). We'd also reunite two members of the Bill Belichick tree, serving up a likely insufferable storyline for fans over the next few seasons. The media even wins!
This move, however audacious, would give the Texans a fresh start with a ton of new faces while providing the 49ers with the game-breaking QB they need to solidify their Super Bowl aspirations further. Just imagine what Kyle Shanahan would be doing with Watson leading the charge.
Fans will inevitably outraged despite the fact this is a mere consideration, but that's what we're here for.
