This Vikings-Jets Blockbuster Trade Involving Jamal Adams and Anthony Harris Could Actually Work
By Mark Powell
What's better than one disgruntled safety in need of a new home?
How about two?
New York Jets safety Jamal Adams isn't expected to report to virtual offseason activities without a new contract, which Joe Douglas and Co. have yet to give him. Adams is the face of the Jets defense at this point, and finding an All-Pro talent at such a young age is a rarity. But, this is the Jets we're talking about.
A potential suitor for Adams' services could be the Vikings, who have their own high-priced safety on the franchise tag in Anthony Harris. The Vikings, at this juncture, look to be heading into the season with Harris on the roster. Why not upgrade?
Harris is no slouch, as he's coming off career bests in interceptions, tackling, and passes defended last season. Yet, given his looming contract situation, the Vikings would have to trade him and a 2020 second-round pick (perhaps as much as a first) for Adams, who is a demonstrably better player and potential face of Minnesota's defense moving forward. The money works out, but this deal hinges on the Vikings convincing Adams to sign long-term.
Should the Jets need more convincing, a 2021 late-round selection could be thrown in to sweeten the pot.
The Jets don't need this drama, period. Luckily, there's a way out.
