This Packers-Steelers Trade for JuJu Smith-Schuster Would Give Green Bay Unstoppable Passing Attack
By Michael Luciano
Pittsburgh Steelers fans had to be disappointed with the production of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster last season, as he managed just 552 yards receiving in 12 games.
With Smith-Schuster a free agent at the end of the upcoming season -- and a rich draft class for wide receivers in 2020 -- the Steelers might actually consider moving off of JuJu, especially if trading him could help Pittsburgh pick up a first-round selection in this draft.
If the Steelers hold onto Smith-Schuster and he disappoints, they'll be stuck in a tough situation when he inevitably demands big money on a contract extension. Between vastly overpaying him or letting him walk away for nothing, neither is an acceptable option.
With that in mind, one team who should give the Steelers a call about JuJu is the Green Bay Packers, who are almost guaranteed to select a wide receiver at pick No. 30 overall.
JuJu struggled last season, but he is one of the best underneath receivers in the league when healthy due to his sure hands, ball skills, and playmaking ability as a runner. Pairing that with the verticality element that Davante Adams brings to the table could help the Green Bay offense hit hyperspeed given that Aaron Rodgers would have a dependable No. 2 slot wide receiver again.
The Steelers could draft a perfect JuJu replacement at No. 30, like LSU's Justin Jefferson or Colorado's Laviska Shenault, while the Packers would have one of the most unstoppable wide receiver tandems in football with Adams on one side of the field and Smith-Schuster on the other. This move would take courage, but could end up as a win for both teams.
