3 Top Prospects the Yankees Can Afford to Trade in Potential Future Blockbuster Deal

The New York Yankees currently have an abundance of prospects many teams would kill to have in their minor league system. From guys like teenage phenom Jasson Dominguez or soon-to-be major leaguer Clark Schmidt, the talent they possess is quite impressive.

However, their major league team is in the hunt for a World Series, which means very few of these guys are safe from being traded if a move presents itself for Brian Cashman. Here are three prospects who could realistically see themselves sent off in a blockbuster trade down the road.

3. Oswald Peraza

Oswald Peraza was not on any top prospect lists this time last year. However, after a fantastic season in 2019 that saw him jump from short season to Low-A propelled him up the ranks. He's now the Yankees' fifth-best prospect, according to Baseball America. He's an incredible fielder with plus speed and "sneaky strength," so most teams could use a guy like that. While the Yankees' farm system is limited in infielder talent, the Yanks just drafted Anthony Volpe last year, so he likely won't be too far behind.

2. Luis GIl

The Yankees have an overabundance of right-handed pitching prospects in their system -- they make up seven of Baseball America's top 10 Yankees prospects. This includes Luis Gil, the Yankees' fourth-ranked prospect, who is currently in Low-A. He skyrocketed from being their 13th-best prospect after recording a 2.39 ERA in Low-A last season, and as a guy who can light up the radar gun, any team would kill to have him. With the amount of talented pitching prospects in the Yankees' system, Gil being sent off is a realistic move.

1. Albert Abreu

Albert Abreu, another right-handed pitcher in the Yankees system, struggled in 2019. In his first full season in Double-A, he logged a 4.28 ERA. However, his ceiling is so high that he's still the Bombers' 10th-ranked prospect. The stuff is there, as he had a great season in 2017, but he struggled to get there in 2019. If another team sees his upside and the potential to channel his ability, he could very well be on another team by the end of 2020.
