College football fans won't have to wait much longer to for Caleb Williams' highly-anticipated commitment. The nation's top rated quarterback in the 2021 recruiting cycle revealed on Monday that he will announce his college decision on July 4.

Any fans searching for fireworks on Independence Day won't have to look any further than Twitter following Williams' announcement.

Oklahoma, LSU and Maryland are the three finalists to land the No. 1 QB prospect, and all told, the Sooners really cannot afford to fumble this opportunity.

Williams and his family took a second unofficial visit to Norman back in March, and it's been widely reported that they've developed a strong relationship with head coach Lincoln Riley, as well as an admiration for OU's program as a whole. All of 247Sports' experts predict the 6-2, 209-pound prospect will ultimately choose the Sooners, so this is truly Riley's race to lose.

LSU is considered a distant second, but you can bet that the Tigers' national championship and the incredible success that Joe Burrow enjoyed in 2019 will play a role in Williams' decision. Both programs lost their starting gunslingers to the NFL Draft, so the Washington, DC native has a lot to consider here.

Riley is a machine when it comes to producing Heisman Trophy contenders at the QB position, and, as historic as LSU's campaign this past season was, Ed Orgeron lost key members of his coaching staff this offseason, including passing game coordinator Joe Brady. Don't be surprised if the Tigers regress in 2020.

It's easy to see why Oklahoma is ahead of the pack, and it really has no excuse not to seal the deal.
