3 Players Raiders Should Sign With Cap Space After Tom Brady Spurned Them for Bucs
By Scott Rogust
Rumors surrounded the Las Vegas Raiders all offseason, as they were trying to bring in Tom Brady to replace Derek Carr and sell season tickets at the new Allegiant Stadium. However, it was all for naught, as Brady instead opted to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, the Raiders have a premium of cap space to spend. Well, $27 million to be exact as of Wednesday.
With that money, here are three free agents that they must sign to help them compete in 2020.
3. DE Everson Griffen
The Las Vegas Raiders have some studs on the defensive side of the ball, with one of them being 2019 mid-round pick Maxx Crosby. First-round pick Clelein Ferrell didn't live up to his fourth overall selection last season, so why not bring in a veteran presence in Everson Griffen. If the former Minnesota Viking showed anything, it's that he can get to the quarterback by any means necessary. Jon Gruden is known for his infatuation with grinders, and there's no one fiercer than Griffen.
2. WR Robby Anderson
The Raiders have long-been linked to New York Jets receiver Robby Anderson. In fact, it's the NFL's worst-kept secret. Las Vegas' offense is missing a speedy receiver who can run deep routes, and no one does it better than Anderson. Just last season, Anderson caught 52 passes for 779 yards and five touchdowns. Anderson is still available, and he'd be the perfect weapon for Derek Carr (or Marcus Mariota).
1. LB Jadeveon Clowney
Perhaps Las Vegas' biggest need is at linebacker. Vontaze Burfict is hitting the open market, and their depth chart is weak, to say the least. Why not make a run at Jadeveon Clowney? The former 2014 first overall pick is still available due to his high asking price. Now that there are no buyers, Raiders general manager Mike Mayock has the chance to swoop in and bring in the best pass rusher available. At this stage, with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers vastly improving, it's time for the Raiders to make a splash and sign Clowney.
