NFL Draft Analyst Has Raiders Making Surprising Pick at No. 19
The Las Vegas Raiders have a chance to add two cornerstone pieces to the franchise early in the 2020 NFL Draft. The team has two first-round picks with the first at No. 12 overall and the second coming at No. 19.
One main question surrounding the team is Derek Carr's place in the future plans. He's under contract through 2022 and has been the starter since 2014. Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline seems to think the Raiders are set to draft his replacement at No. 19.
The Raiders have Carr, Marcus Mariota, Nathan Peterman, and DeShone Kizer all on the roster. Pauline sees the team adding Jordan Love to the mix at quarterback. That would be a bold move and would push several other quarterbacks off the roster right away.
Love going to Las Vegas would put Carr on the clock too. The Utah State product could learn from the sidelines and be set up as the quarterback of the future. Such a selection could even put Carr on the trading block if Love manages to impress early on.
Las Vegas may have some bigger needs other than quarterback in 2020, but if the team sees Love as the quarterback of the future, having two first-round picks allows them to take a chance. Love threw for 3,402 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, however, he also had 17 interceptions, and draft analysts have him going anywhere from early in the first round to later in the second or third round.
Such a polarizing player would be a vintage selection for the duo of Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock.
