Prince Amukamara Got Robbed With Weak Raiders Contract After Productive Season With Bears
By Michael Luciano

The Las Vegas Raiders needed more than just Tanner Muse and Amik Robertson to rebuild their porous secondary, so Jon Gruden opted for a grizzled veteran that could end up with a starting cornerback spot.
The Raiders signed former Chicago Bears cornerback Prince Amukamara to a one-year contract worth just over $1 million. In addition, the team waived 2018 fourth-round corner Nick Nelson to make room for the former Nebraska star.
Prince Amukamara's contract with the Raiders: $50K signing bonus, $1.05M base salary, $87,500 Week 1 roster bonus and a cap charge of $887,500 (veteran salary benefit).

Excellent value for the Raiders and a chance for Amukamara to play a prominent role in their secondary.
Amukamara is coming off a season in which he knocked away 10 passes and recorded 53 tackles across 15 starts as a key member of one of the league's best defenses. His 2018 campaign was one of the best of his career, too.
Amukamara's PFF grades last year set new career-highs in several categories, and will undoubtedly bring a ton of experience and talent to Gruden's cornerback room. How is a guy who has proven to be a rock solid corner for the last decade being forced to take a contract that fringe players typically sign?

Amukamara might have had some rough times during the end of his tenure with the New York Giants, but he was reborn in Chicago and proved he can still defend some of the league's best. Getting him for a hair over $1 million is a massive steal for Mike Mayock.
