Raiders' Record When Committing 10 or More Penalties Will Truly Blow Your Mind
By Jerry Trotta
Ladies and gentleman, it would appear we have stumbled across a loophole in the NFL's largely implied blueprint of winning.
It goes without saying that every football fan pulls their hair out upon witnessing their team commit a costly penalty. Given the referees' alarmingly high tendency to throw the yellow flag in recent years, some buffs out there might be close to balding.
Oakland Raiders fans, however, should encourage their squad to be undisciplined each Sunday, as they've somehow mustered a 17-7 record when committing 10 or more infringements in a single game across the last five seasons. Conversely, they are 18-32 when flagged nine times or fewer.
What in the name of black magic is this absurdity?
Every time graphics are shown during games to convey the gap in penalties for a specific showdown, the teams with the most flags are almost always losing, and by a significant margin.
How is it that the Raiders tend to thrive in these scenarios?
We'd call it the Jon Gruden effect, but he only returned to coaching in 2018. If anyone out there can assemble a coherent explanation, our phone lines are open because we are genuinely stumped.
