Raiders Release Brandon Marshall and Send 3 Key Players for MRIs
By Michael Luciano
The injury bug is doing a good job of derailing the Oakland Raiders and their surprising start to their final season in the Bay Area.
Ahead of their Thursday Night matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Raiders parted ways with veteran linebacker Brandon Marshall, whom they just re-signed a few days ago after cutting him in the preseason. They also activated rookie cornerback Isaiah Johnson.
Marshall piled up 106 tackles with the Denver Broncos in 2017 but lost his starting job under Vance Joseph last season. He will end his Raider tenure without having taken a single snap.
On top of getting rid of Marshall, the Raiders announced that right tackle Trent Brown, cornerback Daryl Worley, and pass rusher Arden Key will get MRIs as their injury woes continue.
Key has recorded two sacks this season, but has made just four tackles, as the arrivals of Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby have cut into his playing time.
Worley, who made an amazing one-handed interception during yesterday's win against the Detroit Lions, has started all eight games and defended four passes in 2019. Brown, who became the highest-paid right tackle in football history in the offseason, has allowed just one sack in 339 snaps this season.
The Raiders will be at half strength when the Chargers come to town, and their depth will really be tested in primetime.
