Raiders Select Alabama Speedster Henry Ruggs With First-Round Pick and the Ghost of Al Davis Lives on
By Thomas Carannante
Al? Are you there?! What's going on?!
We knew the Oakland Raiders LOVED speed, but the Las Vegas Raiders? Come on, this is supposed to be a whole new team! But general manager Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden felt Alabama burner Henry Ruggs III was their man with the No. 12 pick.
Is this a bad pick? Absolutely not. But Ruggs is easily he least accomplished wide receiver of the first-round bunch. He's a dangerous weapon no doubt, but guys like Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb were the clear cut best wideouts in America over the past couple years.
Guess some things never change.
Nonetheless, Derek Carr has another fun prospect to work with. Ruggs will join Tyrell Williams and Hunter Renfrow in the receiving corps, and hopes to make an impact right off the bat during the team's inaugural season in Sin City.
