Raiders Adding WR Nelson Agholor is a Low-Risk Move That Addresses a Major Need
By Sam Dunn
The Las Vegas Raiders need to put their best foot forward as they announce themselves as just the second team in all of major American professional sports to open up shop in SIn City. They're steadily building up their ranks in the new league year, and their latest transaction shouldn't get lost in the shuffle.
They're adding former Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor on a one-year deal.
The free agent market for receivers hasn't made the kind of headlines this offseason that the trade market has, and for good reason. DeAndre Hopkins-type players don't grow on trees, after all. But Agholor has a chance to be an impact performer for Jon Gruden and the Silver and Black, who now have the wide receiver help they were looking for.
He was limited to just 11 games and 39 receptions in 2019 with the Eagles, but the 26-year-old Agholor still has plenty left in the tank.
A key member of Philly's Super Bowl team three seasons ago, he has the versatility to play in the slot or out wide, something Derek Carr will need given his relative lack of receiving options outside of Tyrell Williams and Hunter Renfrow, and fellow newcomer Jason Witten.
