Raiders Trade 2017 First-Round CB Gareon Conley to Texans
By Karl Rasmussen
At this rate, the Texans won't have any draft picks left in 2020.
According to Vic Tafur, the Houston Texans have dealt a third-round pick to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for cornerback Gareon Conley, only two years removed from being selected by Oakland's previous administration.
Conley was drafted 24th overall by the Raiders in 2017. He was widely expected to be a top-10 pick, but a sexual assault allegation raised questions about his character, causing him to plummet down the boards on draft day.
Conley played just two games in his rookie season before stepping into a bigger role in 2018, logging three interceptions, 15 passes defensed and 37 tackles.
The Texans have been busy on the trade market this season, acquiring Kenny Stills and Laremy Tunsil from the Dolphins in exchange for draft capital. They also dealt Jadeveon Clowney to the Seahawks prior to the season.
Conley had started all six games for the Raiders in 2019 before being dealt. He'll join a Texans defense which has surrendered a league-high 1,929 passing yards on the year and ranks towards the bottom of the league with just three interceptions.
As per his mandate, Bill O'Brien continues to attempt to plug gaps using quick fixes, while sacrificing draft capital.
