Raiders WR Zay Jones Shares Profound Interaction With a Total Stranger in Light of Minneapolis Unrest
By Scott Rogust
Protests are taking place across the nation following the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Floyd is yet another name sadly added to the long list of African-Americans who have had their lives taken by those who took the oath to protect and serve, leading to unrest in a number of cities across United States that has included vandalism, burning buildings, and aggressive riot control responses.
In times like these, we need to something to restore faith in humanity. That's where Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Zay Jones comes in.
On Saturday, Jones tweeted about an interaction he had with an elderly white woman at a HomeGoods store. The woman, who said she hailed from Minneapolis, approached Jones in the checkout lane with tears in her eyes with one simple message: that he, a black man, mattered to her.
Jones continued with his heartwarming story, saying that he gave the woman a hug with her permission, and she broke down in his arms. Additionally, she wanted to say that it's important to spread love to everyone.
This is the kind of story that we all need to hear during these times. The country has reached a boiling point following the death of Floyd. Protests are taking place across the country in response to the ongoing issue of police brutality and discrimination against African-Americans.
It's up to all of us to speak out against racism, and we can take a page out of this woman's playbook. Just tell others that they matter to you.
Major props to Jones for sharing this emotional interaction, as it no doubt brought a tear to more than a few readers' eyes.
