Seahawks and 49ers Fans Should Be Laughing at Rams WR Robert Woods' Latest Comments on NFC West
By Scott Rogust
The Los Angeles Rams are a cautionary tale for any team that's thinking of mortgaging their future to make it to the Super Bowl. They overpaid to extend quarterback Jared Goff and now-departed running back Todd Gurley, and also traded away draft capital for the likes of Jalen Ramsey. These moves have all limited their flexibility moving forward.
That hasn't exactly soured everyone's mood in Los Angeles, however.
In an interview with FOX Football Now, Rams wide receiver Robert Woods actually said that LA will "take over" the NFC West division in 2020, one which happens to contain teams like the perennially contending Seattle Seahawks and the defending conference champion San Francisco 49ers.
"We always feel like we match up well with each and every one of those teams," Woods said, per 247Sports. "We play well offensively and defensively; always can make special teams plays as well. But we're really just playing like a team. We know they have some weapons on offense and defense. San Francisco's feeling very confident after their run last year. But that just makes us more hungry. We were there before. We had a loss. So we know what it takes to get back on top and really just take over that whole division."
Sorry, Rob, but we're not buying it.
The Rams are currently stuck in salary cap hell after giving Goff a vomit-inducing deal and extending Gurley way too early, preventing them from making major free agency signings to get over the hump. Additionally, they had to part ways with players such as Brandin Cooks, Dante Fowler, and Clay Matthews. Make no mistake about it, the Rams have tremendous holes they weren't fully able to address.
Look at the 49ers, who got even better this offseason by acquiring offensive tackle Trent Williams and drafting stud defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw. Look at the Seahawks, who are as consistent as any team in the NFL season to season; no matter their personnel, you can never count them out. We can't forget the Arizona Cardinals, either, who traded for superstar wideout DeAndre Hopkins to be the primary target for promising QB Kyler Murray.
Look, we get that Woods is trying to hype up the fanbase before the start of the season, but we're being realistic here. The Rams aren't winning the division in 2020. It may be a bit harsh, but it's the truth.
