This Rams-Vikings Trade Involving Brandin Cooks and Anthony Harris Could Actually Work
By Michael Luciano
Just a year removed from making the Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Rams are looking to sell some of their best players for pennies on the dollar, including deep threat wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
Cooks' injury-filled 2019, in which he didn't even crack 600 yards receiving, has really hampered his value after the Rams reportedly put him on the trade market -- Los Angeles could part with him for a mid-round pick.
The Minnesota Vikings might be able to kill two birds with one stone in this potential deal, as they could find a way to finally part with safety Anthony Harris.
Harris was hit with the franchise tag, but the Vikings have been looking for a mid-round pick in a potential trade that would see them move on from the undrafted free agent star. Provided Rick Spielman can get the Rams to send Minnesota a late-round pick as well as Cooks, the Vikings could shed Harris' $11 million cap hit while adding a vertical wide receiver who can replace Stefon Diggs.
Minnesota has about $14 million in cap space right now, and if this deal goes through, they'll have somewhere around $8-$9 million after acquiring Cooks' $16.8 million cap hit and ditching Harris' 2020 salary.
Harris is just about done in Minnesota, and the Vikings need to find some way to replace Diggs at wide receiver if they don't address it in the draft. By being aggressive and making the move for Cooks, they can stay alive in the NFC North.
