Rams WR Corps Could Be in Trouble After Latest Update on Brandin Cooks
By Michael Luciano
The Los Angeles Rams face the prospect of potentially playing the rest of the season without star deep threat Brandin Cooks.
Cooks will travel to Pittsburgh to meet with a specialist to identify the severity of his head injuries. Cooks, who has been ruled out for LA's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, has suffered yet another serious concussion, and these injuries are putting his short-term NFL future in jeopardy.
The 26-year-old has reportedly suffered five concussions in his career, including two in 2019.
Drafted in the first round in 2014 by the New Orleans Saints, Cooks took his downfield skills to the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons with the Patriots and Rams, but failed to prevail in either scenario. In fact, in Super Bowl LII, he was ruled out of the game midway through after taking a major hit to the head.
In eight games this season, Cooks has 27 catches for 402 yards and one touchdown. The most likely replacement will be Josh Reynolds, a bigger, physical receiver that has proven he can handle an increased workload after the Cooper Kupp injury last year.
Sean McVay's offense has been shown to take a step back when the threat of Cooks' speed is taken away. Playing against an improved Pittsburgh defense certainly isn't going to make matters easier.
