Random Twitter User Points Out Justin Verlander Had Substance on His Fingers During Astros-Indians
By Scott Rogust
Sports fans are spoiled with the amount of technology at their disposal. When it comes to any professional game, individuals are watching with a proverbial microscope.
During Tuesday's game between the Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians, one user pointed out that Astros ace Justin Verlander might have had a substance on his fingers during his start.
Looks like we gotta call this game off, folks!
Does he have a case? The color certainly looks like it could be pine tar.
During his appearance, Verlander completely mowed down the Indians lineup, as he struck out 13 batters while allowing just two hits in seven innings of work.
Another instance of fans pointing out a pitcher using some sort of substance came during a New York Yankees-Seattle Mariners game in May. During said game, it appeared that pitcher Yusei Kikuchi had a large amount of substance (resembling pine tar) under the bill of his cap.
While it's against the rules for pitchers to use pine tar, some batters don't have an issue with it because it allows the pitcher to have control of the ball. If they don't have control, the batter can be subject to a potentially serious injury.
Even though the Twitter user raised a potential red flag, it's highly unlikely Justin Verlander faces league disciplince, considering he wasn't ejected or admonished by umpires during Tuesday's start.
