Rangers Acquire Veteran Slugging Catcher Welington Castillo from White Sox to Cut Him
By Parker White

This may have come a year too late for Texas, after their target was suspended for PEDs, but the Chicago White Sox have gotten their offseason off to a quick start.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the White Sox have traded veteran catcher Welington Castillo and international signing bonus money to the Texas Rangers for infielder/outfielder Jonah McReynolds

After a nice season with Baltimore in 2017, Castillo struggled as a member of the White Sox, playing in 121 games over two seasons and slashing .230/.282/.413 with only 18 home runs and 56 RBI.
Of course, according to TR Sullivan of MLB.com, this will be a short-lived tenure in Arlington, as the Rangers are expected to turn down Castillo's option and buy him out, making him a free agent.
Rangers are not expected to keep Castillo... they acquired him because they also get $250,000 in international bonus money.... They will turn down an $8 million option on Castillo and pay the $500,000 buyout

The only reason the Rangers acquired Castillo is because they also received $250,000 in international bonus money, which teams are trying to add all the time.
That's the real winning asset here.
