Heartbreaking news out of Dallas this weekend. Texas Rangers beat writer Gerry Fraley passed away Saturday morning after a two-year battle with cancer. He spent more than three decades covering the game of baseball. Fraley was 64 years old.
The Texas Rangers released an official statement honoring the memory of Fraley and his dedication to the game.
"The Texas Rangers are saddened by the passing of longtime Dallas Morning News baseball writer Gerry Fraley, who died early this morning at the age of 64 after a long and courageous battle with cancer."
They went on to praise his dedication, saying "He covered the sport with a passion and intensity second to none...The Rangers extend their heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Fraley's family and friends at this difficult time."
Fraley, a stalwart of the game, joined the Dallas Morning News back in 1989. He covered all types of sports and events during his time with the paper in addition to his work on the beat for the Rangers.
Yet again, the baseball world was forced to pay an unwanted goodbye to one of the most respected writers in the game.
